Even though everyone says that herbs should not be fertilized, because otherwise the taste and aroma will be bland: This is not true! Many herbs need a medium fertilization (unlike vegetable crops that really need a lot of fertilizer. Basil, dill, leek varieties, and a few moisture-loving herbs like lovage and sorrel also need more nutrients).
For fertilizing, you can use regular mineral fertilizer or liquid fertilizer. By a “medium” fertilization is meant about two-thirds of the normal, specified amount. Mature compost would also be good as an alternative (if you don’t like the chemical fertilizers).
