The leaves are lobed, which means they are divided into three sections, each section being separated by a deep notch. The leaves are dark green on the top and lighter green on the bottom.
The bark is dark brown with vertical grooves that form diamond shapes. The bark also has horizontal lines that are called “bark ridges”.
