There is often a quiet consensus among neighbors that the lawn is only mowed on sunny days. People look it up from each other or do it like their own parents and grandparents. If the grass is wet, the lawn mower stays in the shed. This is actually not necessary, because if a few points are observed, you can of course mow wet grass without any problems.
This is important when mowing wet grass:
Never mulch: When mowing, always use a basket. This is because wet grass clippings are heavy and lay over the lawn. The mulch then keeps out light and in the worst case threatens rotting. Always mulch only on dry days.
Consider effort: wet grass is heavy, so the basket must fit properly and in no case have hooks that can easily break. In addition, mowing the lawn itself is also more laborious. If you live on a slope, mowing wet grass can directly replace the fitness program.
Do not walk on it before mowing: In order for the blades to be mowed down, they must stand. Therefore, the lawn should not be walked on in advance, otherwise gardeners would push down the blades.
Empty the catcher more often:
The heavy grass also makes the lawn mower heavier, so the basket should be emptied more often than usual.
Clean blades:
Damp grass sticks, so it may be necessary to clean the blades of grass clippings in between. Be sure to turn petrol lawnmowers over to the right side for this purpose!
Cutting height:
Long blades bend a little more in the rain, so it may be useful to mow several times at different heights and not start low immediately.

Everyone knows that you should mow the lawn only in dry weather. But this is not always possible. After all, the summer is not every year nice sunny and warm. We have also had some summers in which it has rained almost only. And also in late autumn all green areas have to be mowed one last time. If you would leave the long grass over the winter, snow and frost would push the blades down. And that, in turn, would then result in the overlying load choking the roots underneath. However, especially in autumn it often rains for many days at a stretch, so that we often do not find a dry period to give the lawn a final cut before winter dormancy. So you can exceptionally mow the lawn even in wet weather, if you observe a few special features.
How to mow wet lawn properly
➜ Mow the lawn, don’t mulch:
One thing is enormously important: in wet weather, you must only mow the lawn, never mulch it. In this case, the wet grass cuttings would otherwise remain on the green area. It is then not only heavy, but also at the same time acts as a cover. And this, in turn, has two disadvantages: First, the light would no longer penetrate to the blades of grass under the cover, and second, the persistent moisture would quickly lead to rot. And while we’re on the subject of catch baskets: In any case, it must be robust, because wet grass naturally weighs considerably more. Consequently, mowing a wet lawn is also much more strenuous. Therefore, do not wait until the catcher bag is completely full, but empty it every now and then. This way, mowing is less strenuous and there is no unnecessary pressure on the lawn.
➜ Do not walk on the lawn before mowing:
Do not step on the wet green area before mowing under any circumstances, but always walk nicely behind the lawn mower. If you do not do this, the blades will be pushed down and cannot be reached by the blades. If the grass is already flattened by the rain, it is best to reach for the rake before mowing and straighten the blades a bit.

It is probably necessary to clear the blades of wet clippings from time to time, as they often get caught there. It also makes sense to set the cutting height a little more generous at first and then reduce it to the actual one only in a second pass. This also has the advantage that the lawn can dry out a little before the second pass.
