You can design your garden with little money if you know a few tips and tricks. Here you will find five ideas that you can implement not only cheap, but also easy.
On the Internet or in garden centers there are beds, plants, garden furniture and decoration for every taste, but they often cost a lot of money. If you buy everything new, creating and maintaining a large garden can quickly become expensive.
But it doesn’t have to be: You can design your garden even with little money. In the following article, we’ll show you some tips and ideas on how to do it.
Designing a garden with little money: Cuttings and cuttings
Flowers and shrubs from the specialized trade are often expensive. Ask friends and acquaintances instead: Perhaps someone would like to give you a few cuttings and cuttings, which you then simply put in the ground with you. Currant and gooseberry are good examples – you can cut 20-centimeter-long cuttings from them in the fall and simply stick them as deep as possible into the ground. They will then sprout fresh the next spring.
You can also easily take cuttings from other plants, such as wild roses or lady’s mantle. Also try to propagate ivy and plant delphiniums. Perhaps you already have perennials in your garden that you can simply divide and transplant.
For creative people: make your own decoration
If you have a creative streak and a bit of craftsmanship, you can make your own garden decorations from simple materials. In the picture above you can see abstract flowers and shapes made of wood. These are attached to the branches with a simple piece of string.
The decoration on the picture should of course only serve as an example. You can make many different things out of wood. So you design your garden with little money, but with a lot of personality.
Tip: If you have a broken wheelbarrow or watering can, you do not have to dispose of it immediately. Instead, you can use it as a mini-bed, fill it with soil and plant it (see cover picture).
Flower meadow: Fill large areas cheaply
You have a large garden and do not know how to fill the free space? Then a flower meadow might be right for you.
A packet of flower seeds costs little money, but makes such a difference in the garden design. You’ll be doing something good if you choose wildflowers. These usually grow in the wild, but are becoming increasingly rare in recent years. Insects such as bees or various species of butterflies are happy about the wild flowers that beautify your garden.
Garden furniture for little money
Whether it’s a garden bench, small table, Hollywood swing or deck chair – you can design your garden with furniture on a budget. Just look around for second-hand furniture. For this, a visit to a flea market is worthwhile, but also in Facebook groups and on eBay classifieds often find cheap treasures. Here are a few more tips:
Second-hand furniture is not only cheaper, but also more environmentally friendly. Because they do not have to be produced first by means of energy and resources.
Tip: Garden furniture is exposed to the weather all year round, which is why it can quickly become damaged or broken. Don’t throw it away right away, but try to repair it. You can get help at a Repair Café. Prevent damage by storing furniture away from rain and snow.
Design garden with little money: create beds yourself
If you have a garden, you can grow your own food in it. For example, very popular and useful in any kitchen are fresh herbs such as basil, sage, rosemary and thyme.
Raised beds are great for herbs, but they are often expensive in stores. If you want to design your garden with a bed, but don’t want to spend a lot of money on it, you can simply build it yourself.
